Street Legal Racing Redline

So, this weekend I was making a backup of my files and I came across some old files for a game called Street Legal Racing Redline from Invictus Games. I remembered this game’s concept was an excellent one however the actual game was a bit disappointing. So I searched for my installation disc and installed it.

For this game to run decently, there are a few updates to install which can be found on fileplanet.com and patches-scrolls.de. Install the patches then head over to for all your extras including add-on cars, textures and cheats.

The game’s concept is simple:

  • buy a car
  • modify it
  • race against the various clubs to become number 1

When buying a car you have the choice of buying a new car or a used car. This depends on the amount of money that you have in your account. Then you buy parts and this is where the game differs from other titles.

You buy parts for your engine, for example, but you must buy all the parts (flywheel, exhaust headers, turbos, etc.) and install them in the correct order. For example, you cannot install the exhaust pipe if you have not installed the exhaust header. Where will it fit? Other title allow you to buy parts and upgrades but they are installed automatically. Not here and this makes a world of difference for me.

When racing, your car’s parts get damaged through wear and tear or abuse (tires will eventually get worn out, the clutch will get damaged if not clutching in when changing gears if auto clutch is disabled, and so on) and will eventually need repairing. Fortunately there is an option to repair the entire car so you don’t have to remove each part and repair it separately (as was the case with the original Street Legal Racing).

After getting to the top of the racing underground you get the opportunity to race in the Race of Champions or the ROC. The ROC takes place on a mountain road and is damn hard. I have not been able to win this race…ever! Not even with highly modified cars. The computer always beats me at the end which is a very bumpy stretch of road which goes on for about a mile or so.

But regardless, I enjoy playing this game because the cars are ordinary cars (Toyota Corolla, Honda civic, Mitsubishi Lancer, BMW, etc.) that can be modified and the ROC is so challenging that it keeps me coming back. Amazon should have this title on sale for those of you who may be interested.
