At the end of play today the title race will be decided next week. Both Manchester City and Manchester United are level on points with City having the edge on goal difference. City needs to win or at the vesy least duplicate United’s result next week for them to win the title. This should be easy pickings, theoretically, since City’s opponents will be Queens Park Rangers. Manchester United will play Sunderland on the last day which shouldn’t be too hard, in my opinion, but Sunderland has caused a few upsets this season.

Third place is just as tightly contested. Arsenal, Tottenham and New Castle United are in a three way battle which, like the championship title, will be decided next week. Arsenal needs to beat West Brom Albion to remain in third place and go to the Champion’s League next season whereas both Tottenham and New Castle United need to win their games and hope Arsenal lose in order to qualify for the Champion’s League.

The bottom of the table is not without drama. There is no hope for Wolverhampton Wanderers as they have been relegated. We still need to wait until tomorrow’s game between Blackburn and Wigan Athletic to know the fate of the teams in the relegation zone.
