I don’t remember when the road works from Roseau to Portsmouth started but I remember that I have seen a lot more accidents since the road works started than before.
I live on the highway in Canefield and I have seen my share of accidents. Since the road works started, though, I have seen an accident…no…make that two accidents in the same place virtually at the same time. A first for Canefield. How does this happen one may ask? I’ll tell you how. Stupidity!!
We, Dominicans, now have a pothole free road from Roseau to Portsmouth and what do we do on that road? Drive as fast as we can. Even in villages like St Joe, Massacre and Canefield where there are pedestrians on the road all the time.
Then there are those who have forgotten what the dashed and solid lines on the road mean. I was driving home one night, taking my time I might add, and when I got under the Canefield cliff this idiot suddenly suddenly decides to overtake a line of vehicles while I am in the opposite lane coming towards him. I swerved out of the way and the ****ing idiot didn’t even go back into his lane. He just kept on driving.
In addition to drivers playing chicken under the cliff, there are those who are so impatient that they overtake in what is supposed to be a break down lane. So on any given day you can have people overtaking on the left and right while you’re sandwiched in the middle.
My suggestion is that we take our time on our new road and have a little more patience. I mean come on, if you’re late, driving at 100 mph will not make you get there early. Once you’re late, you’re late. I know we can do it, Dominica, so let’s take our time while driving and reduce the number of accidents on our “new road”.
