The weekend of June 16, 2012 started with me preparing for a trip to the Boiling Lake in Laudat village. I bought lots of water, some snacks and stuff to make breakfast. I could hardly sleep that night, not because of excitement but because of the preparation of food for the following day’s activity.
The following morning, at 4:30, I woke, went to the bathroom, of course, and then headed to the kitchen to prepare what I deemed a “power breakfast”. Omelette with sausage and lots of cheese in an entire mastiff and some sweet passion fruit juice. I woke my girl, took a shower, packed our bags and we were off.
The beginning of the trail was met with great enthusiasm. Two and a half hours into the hike, the enthusiasm was non-existent. Both my girlfriend and I were exhausted, especially as we’re not in the best shape of our lives. Gotta start that Insanity workout video SOON! But we continued along and eventually made it to the end, yay!
Out of eight people, we were the last two to make it to the boiling lake. But we did and that’s what matters. The hike back was even more taxing as we were already tired. So tired in fact that we took no pictures on the way back.
As tired as we were, it was worth it. And when we got home, I had never been so happy to take a shower and “hit the sack”. So I encourage all of you to visit the Boiling Lake. It will be a hike you will never forget!
