Creating a Rubber Stamp Effect

This tutorial will show you the steps to create a rubber stamp effect in photoshop. Of course, with everything Photoshop, there are always other ways to do this. Parts of this tutorial are taken from Sue Chastain’s article from http://graphicssoft.about.com.

  1. Open Photoshop, create a new project and type a word or phrase. Use a large font for your word or phrase
  2. Rasterize the layer
  3. Select the Rectangular Marquee tool and draw a box around the text like below:

  4. Click on Edit > Stroke to create a border around the text

  5. Below are my settings. Change them accordingly for your purposes then click OK

  6. Add an adjustment layer by clicking the New Adjustment Layer button in the Layers area and choose “Pattern”

  7. Choose a pattern and click OK. I chose the Canvas pattern as shown below:

  8. Rasterize the canvas layer
  9. Select the magic wand and click on the most dominant color
  10. Hide the canvas layer and select the layer with your text
  11. Click on the Add New Layer Mask button

  12. Click the Add New Layer Style button and choose Color Overlay

  13. Change the color to suit your needs and you are done. Congratulations!
