While at a meeting today, I heard sirens wailing and found it strange that they were going towards the bayfront and not out of town. I thought nothing much of it and continued the meeting. Shortly after hearing the sirens, my phone started ringing. After three missed calls I answered the following call and I was told that the Social Security building was on fire.
I finished my meeting and anxiously walked down to the Social Security building to see what was going on but by the time I got there, the fire department had everything under control. Sigh!! I was SO disappointed!
On my way home just past the West Indies Oil gas station, I looked up and saw the hill side near Canefield East on fire. There was a bush fire which burnt the entire hill side and continued burning. Curiosity got the best of me and I drove up to have a closer look and the situation was much worse than I thought. Houses were actually in danger of being burnt to the ground. But fortunately, the fire department did what they had to in order to prevent lose of property.
Nature is one hell of a beast when she’s ready. Hopefully there will be no more fires since we are now into the hurricane season. Let’s stay safe, Dominica, and until next time, toodles!
